Peterson Laurent (Haitian/St.Marc, 1888-1958), is a self-taught artist from Haiti. He was a black smith and produced art as early as the late 1940s. Laurent was not prolific, making his art hard to find. His work depicts scenes of every day life, parades, cathedrals, bandstands, landscapes, including still life paintings of fish and renditions of battleships. His work was exhibited in1997 -- Island on Fire: Passionate Visions of Haiti From the Collection of Jonathan Demme, Equitable Life Building, New York, NY (1997).
